Malachi 3:10-11 NKJV

10 “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not
open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.
11 “And
I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground, Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,” Says the Lord of hosts.

Guide

  • A tithe is a tenth (10%) of your gross income. The word tithe literally means tenth in Hebrew, which is where the 10% comes from. Leviticus 27:30 says, “A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord: it is holy to the Lord.” Thus, as Christians, it is our duty to tithe. It is also important to note that when giving, one must give joyfully and not grudgingly.

  • Alms is an outward sign of Christian love for others. Almsgiving is offering something freely to relieve the poor and needy. It incorporates the spiritual practices of prayer and fasting in a way that manifests itself by caring for our neighbors in need.

  • First fruit is the offering made from the first proceeds of the year. For instance, the first salary you receive in a new employment.

  • A love offering is a designated gift for a pastor. The pastor is the shepherd to God’s flock and thus they are appointed to a role of leadership. For feeding, protecting, guiding, teaching, and loving God’s flock, a love offering provides the opportunity to show gratitude and appreciation to the pastors for being the shepherd to God’s flock in the form of an offering or financial gift.

  • Giving to missions is an offering that is given through the church but not for the church. Instead the offerings given for missions are specifically used to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those outside our church and internationally.

  • Seed offering is your thanks for that which you shall receive. Seed offering is the seed you plant, the investment given in faith for something specific. You will often hear to sow seed, and this is one way to do it. Sowing seed is sowing by faith and believing for something specific.

  • Youth offering is giving to the youth for any resources, events, and or other related needs. The youth and children are an important part of our ministry and we believe investing in them will prosper the church and God’s kingdom. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.”(Luke 18:16)
